Three Skincare Ingredients to Avoid

Posted by Camille Smith on

Studies show that products marketed to Black people can contain more harsh and toxic products than those marketed to other demographics. Some of these products have ingredients that can be harmful to both the skin and health overall. Bronze Glory is committed to providing high-quality skincare products made with clean, ethically sourced ingredients. If you are currently building your skincare routine, consider avoiding the following products for a clean and safe skincare experience.

Parabens

Parabens have been added to skincare and other cosmetic products since the 1920s. They are artificial preservatives often used to increase the shelf life of a skincare or personal care product. Recent studies have shown the harmful effects of parabens, including skin sensitization, potential hormone disruption, and an increased risk of skin cancer.

Fragrance

A study from the American Academy of Dermatology reports that fragrances are one of the leading causes of allergic reactions on the skin, affecting around 1% of the general population. People with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis should especially avoid products containing fragrances as they can further irritate the skin.

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil can protect and moisturize skin in the winter months when skin tends to be drier. However, regular use of mineral oil on the face and body can clog pores causing acne and blemishes. It also sits on the skin's surface and can reflect the sun, leading to sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
